Accessibility Statement
The Santee Community Foundation is committed to making santeecommunityfoundation.org accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities.
Our commitment
The Santee Community Foundation ("SCF") is committed to ensuring that santeecommunityfoundation.org is accessible to people with disabilities. SCF aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA — the current international standard for web accessibility.
Accessibility is consistent with SCF's mission: the Santee community includes residents with a wide range of abilities, and every neighbor deserves equal access to information about the programs and resources the Foundation provides.
What we have built
This website was built with accessibility as a design requirement, not an afterthought. The following measures are in place:
| Feature | Implementation |
|---|---|
| Semantic HTML | Proper heading hierarchy (h1–h5), landmark regions (nav, main, section, footer), and descriptive element roles throughout |
| Keyboard navigation | All interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard alone; focus indicators are visible on all focusable elements |
| Color contrast | Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text) |
| Images and icons | Decorative images and icons are marked aria-hidden="true"; functional images include descriptive alt text or aria-label attributes |
| No hidden content | All page content is visible in the DOM — no accordions, tabs, or display:none elements that would hide content from assistive technologies |
| Link text | Links use descriptive text that makes sense out of context; icon-only links include aria-label attributes |
| Form labels | All form inputs include associated labels or aria-label attributes |
| No motion requirement | No content requires motion or animation to understand; CSS transitions are decorative only |
Known limitations
While SCF aims for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, some limitations exist:
- Third-party donation processors: Givebutter and Venmo are external platforms with their own accessibility implementations. SCF does not control the accessibility of these platforms.
- PDF documents: Linked PDFs (bylaws, 501(c)(3) letter) are hosted on third-party servers and may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Email info@yourscf.org to request an accessible version.
- Embedded social media: Links to Instagram and Facebook open in those platforms' own interfaces, which are governed by their own accessibility policies.
Technical specifications
This website was built with the following technologies and is designed to be compatible with current assistive technologies:
- HTML5 semantic markup
- CSS (no JavaScript required to view any page content)
- WAI-ARIA roles and properties where appropriate
- Compatible with screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver
- Compatible with keyboard-only navigation
- Responsive layout for mobile, tablet, and desktop viewports
Conformance status
This website partially conforms to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conforms" means that some content does not fully meet the standard — specifically, the third-party limitations described above. SCF reviews accessibility with each site update and works to resolve identified issues.
