About the Program
In partnership with the Santee Mobilehome Owners Action Committee (SMOAC) and Buddy’s Backpacks
A student without a computer at home is a student doing homework on a phone, or not doing it at all. The Santee Community Foundation is closing that gap for five Santee families this year.
The Foundation is providing five free HP laptops to benefit local students, made possible by a grant from The San Diego Futures Foundation and delivered in partnership with SMOAC / Buddy’s Backpacks. There is no cost to the students or families who receive them.

Eligibility & Program Rules
Please read before applying.
- No donation is required, requested, or considered. Applying is free. No purchase, payment, or contribution of any kind is necessary to apply or to be selected, and donating to the Santee Community Foundation does not improve an applicant’s chances or affect eligibility in any way.
- Who may apply. Applications must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian of a school-age child residing in the household. Applicants must reside in Santee, California.
- One application per household. Duplicate applications from the same household will be consolidated into a single entry.
- Insider exclusion. Directors, officers, employees, and volunteers of the Santee Community Foundation, SMOAC, and Buddy’s Backpacks — and members of their households — are not eligible to apply or to receive a laptop.
- Verification. The Foundation may verify residency, household composition, and eligibility information before a laptop is awarded, and may disqualify an application containing information that cannot be verified.
- Selection and notification. Five recipients are selected by random drawing from among all qualified applicants. Recipients are notified by phone using the number provided on the application. A recipient who cannot be reached within five (5) business days of the first notification attempt may be replaced by an alternate selected in the same manner.
- Equipment. Laptops are provided as-is, in a single model and configuration. There is no cash equivalent and no substitution. Any manufacturer warranty passes to the recipient; the Foundation provides no warranty, technical support, service, or repair.
- Changes to the program. The Santee Community Foundation reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue this program at any time.
- Your information. The application asks about your household, including whether you receive public assistance. That information is used for one purpose only: determining eligibility for this program and contacting you if your household is selected. Responses are collected through Google Forms and stored in the Foundation’s Google account, where they are accessible only to the Foundation personnel administering this program. We do not sell, rent, trade, or publish your information. The application includes an optional box you may check to join the Foundation’s mailing list; we add no one who does not check it, and declining has no effect on your application or your chances in the drawing. If you do join, your email address is kept separately from your application record until you ask to be removed. Application records are deleted one year after the close of the program. To ask what we hold about you, or to have your application withdrawn and deleted, reach us through the Connect page.
